In Microsoft Office your able to create links to other documents and web pages in Microsoft Office. This guide will walk you though how to do this step by step with pictures so you can see exactly what I am talking about.

Inserting the Hyperlinks Address and pressing enter

You can, if you wanted, type in an address or copy and paste an address from the web browser and press enter after it.

So f I wanted to link Google in word, I can just type https://google.co.uk or www.google.co.uk

This works with all versions of Office and should automatically turn it into a web link once you press enter.

Creating a link using the built in dialog box

For those of you who wish to insert a Hyperlink to a document or web page. You can use Words built in tool to do this. Please follow these steps to navigate there:

First off, place your curser where you want the link to appear.

ribbon

We will need to be using the Ribbon which is the content inside the black box in the image above. You will notice it has different tabs: Home, Insert, Design…

Insert

Please click onto insert, which is found near Home on the ribbon tab. If your stuck, please take a look at my image above. I have placed a red box around the tab you need to click onto.

create link

On this Tab, you will be able to insert images and videos etc… You will need to click onto Link which is shown in my image above – in the red box.

This will then produce a pop up window once clicked that looks like this

link text box

This is where you can link other documents and websites to your document. By default it should already be on existing file or web page, so the only boxes you need to worry about are these – for web links.

link text box filled

The red box can be left blank if you wanted. It will place the link URL (Uniform Reference Locater) of the web page as the text. However, the red box is where you place the text you want the link to show as on your document.

For example, I am creating a link to the Microsoft Community. So my link text will be Microsoft Community which will be shown on the document.

The orange box is where the web address goes. So my case, I am linking it to www.answers.microsoft.com

Once you have filled this out, please click OK

After you have done this, you will see the Hyperlink on your document
